ISCSI connection loss after a couple days on Windows Server 2019

Hi Folks,

I have a strange problem. I have a ISCSI connection to my Synology NAS (RS3412xs) (latest version). I use ESXI 6.7.0 Update 2 (Build 13006603).

On this esxi a Windows Server 2019 is running and has a ISCSI connection to the NAS.

On the Windows machine I cant find a lot of information which is helpful. I have attached the Windows events.

Actually I don't even know where I have to look. On the Synology side there is no log entry at this time also no other ISCSI errors or so.

You can download the Windows log here (I zipped it): https://takeafile.com/?f=wevikopeva

Any help / idea are welcome:=)

I found the following in: /var/log/vmkernel.log

CAC Authentication and PSC Certificate Export

$

With regard to the title, my problem is CAC authentication, my question is "is it possible to export certificates from a known-good PSC?"

Recently, we have been unable to authenticate into a few of our vCenters. Initially, I thought it might be a certificate issue, so I wanted to find out if it's possible to export certificates from a known-good vCenter/PSC so that I can import them into the problem vCenters. I am also having our AD team look at it from a DC perspective, as they did DC upgrades around the same time we lost the capability to CAC authenticate.

Ultimately, I'd like to know if the second part of my issue is possible, but feel free to chime in on the CAC authentication issue.

Here is what I can tell you:

The vCenters in question are all 6.5

All have had the reverse proxy configured, and all have Machine SSL certs.

All on the classified network have identical certs applied to the PSC.

On the unclassified side, I took measures to get almost all the certs to be identical, but the one missing cert (as compared to the known-good), I've been advised, is a non-issue.

These vCenters are run off Cisco appliances as opposed to Windows Servers.

This is a vCenter Web Client issue.

I do hope I've configured my inquiry correctly and respectfully. I have done my due diligence, and I've only come across information on importing/applying certificates...not exporting them. Any help would be appreciated.

ESXI reboots after loading setup files

I want to install esxii-6.7 on a server node and the problem is when it loads all module, the server is restarted. It shows a message quickly and I can not catch it with "pause" button.

I have used this image on other nodes and it they work well.

Is there any way to view setup log? All these happen before the installation of esxi. Any idea?

Your evaluation has expired.

Can vSphere evaluation only be downloaded once? So all tests have to be done in 60 days?

No matter how often you download the binaries, the evaluation period starts with the installation.

If you need more time for evaluation, reach out to your VMware representative, or partner, and ask them for an extended license.

Such issues sometimes occur with installations on non-supported hardware.

If you can't pause the system, try capturing a movie using e.g. your mobile phone, to see whether this lets you view the message.

Hi,

I think I am having the same issue as you had in this thread.

Would you be able to clarify which file was edited in order to restore the correct SSL trust ?

Regards and thanks for the update. - Patrick -

It appears since I got VMware support on the phone that we couldn't figure it out so I reset the password on the vsphere.local user and it all worked and we are unsure why when we tested all passwords outside of the vCenter install.

Looking for someone to help

Hi,

I'm sorry if this post is inappropriate but I really do need help and where better find it then here.

Looking for somebody with an advanced knowledge of vmware to work with me over Team Viewer to review my environment and answer questions. I basically want to go through many of the settings I am struggling to understand, for example virtual switches. I would like to go over one of the esxi hosts and vcenter.

This is not consulting but instructional in nature. We will work out financial arrangements to be paid over Paypal, Venmo or Cashapp. I can pay up front for 1 hour then take it from there. I am hoping to get at least 2 hours in this weekend.

Thanks very much,

Jeff

Well, it's seems you're half right, vmware seems to have implemented some support for it. But limited to U.2 drives on a hotplug back plane??? I'm still fuzzy about it all to be honest. If you ask me, Intel had no business trying to do RAID again. They've been trying to put their foot into raid for years and have failed miserably, and now they've gone and moved it onto the processor and practically force you to either get intel SSDs or you just can't get the performance of NVMe SSDs direct attached to X16 pci lanes. That is total BS!

As far as "fake" raid, to be honest, I hate software raid controllers too, but now with these drives being so fast, you can't throw needing cache out the window and unless you get a dedicated xeon processor attached a controller, you're not going to do much better than using the processor. Basically, there's hardly any need for a hardware controller anymore and so far, all attempts to do so have resulted in reduced performance over VROC. I cringe at the thought of using intel's software, but I'm not seeing very many other options. They only other card I've seen that even remotely addresses the issue is HighPoint's NVMe Raid cards but even that is still lagging on the PCIe 3.0 support and PCIe 4.0 is here and it's FAST!

Intel is making things difficult on purpose I swear.

Dropping 75% packet lost between Virtual Machines

Hello All,

Let's see if anyone is having this issue ok?

I'm using Workststion15.5 Pro on Win10 Pro. I am putting together a lab that was 100% working yesterday when all of the Sutton I'm losing packets to a point where the VMs can't talk to each other.

This is the lab from Navio Learn How to Build a VMware Home Lab in a Complete Walkthrough  The lab is identical to the IPs and networking setup I created incase you had any questions on setup that was working.

Troubleshooting I have done so far.

1. Reinstalled VM Tools.

2. Removed all networking connections. Reset the  networking editor and reboot the PC and applied them again.

3. Backup my VMs then reset the OS back to defaults keeping all my files. Before the I removed any security updates prior to this.

4. From the ESXi server "ping" the other ESXi which failed of course.

5. Rechecked my subnets and create a test environment  in GNS3 with the VMs being routers and wasn't able to produce the same effect.

6. Tried another VMNet.

Now all these VMs are on "host only" VMNet8 and no NAT or bridging to the physical PC so It all internal.

Now I have a feeling it's my Windows but before I install Linux I wanted to ask you all.

Thanks in advance.

Where is VMWare Workstation's Host Hardware Compatibility list?

Years ago I had this bookmarked, but can't find it now.  I'm looking to buy/build a new PC for use with VMWare Workstation 15.5 Pro and want to know if I can buy an  AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8Ghz 12 Core or if I should stick with Intel based products (like Intel i9).

Thanks for the answers if you know them,

Patrick
